Day 1: Arrival — Dalaman Airport to Ölüdeniz / Fethiye

Your 6-day Lycian Way adventure begins at Dalaman Airport (DLM), where a private air-conditioned vehicle collects you for the approximately 65-kilometre drive west along the D400 coastal highway to Fethiye and then south to Ölüdeniz — a journey of around 1 hour under normal conditions. The road descends through pine-forested mountains before opening onto the famous Blue Lagoon, giving first-time arrivals an immediate introduction to the turquoise waters and dramatic limestone cliffs that define this section of the Aegean coast.

Accommodation

Handpicked hotel, Ölüdeniz

A short minibus transfer from Ölüdeniz delivers the group to Kayaköy — a UNESCO-listed ghost town of some 3,500 intact stone houses and two Greek Orthodox churches, abandoned after the 1923 Greco-Turkish population exchange — for a guided walk through the ruins before joining the waymarked Lycian Way south toward Ölüdeniz. The trail descends through fragrant pine and cedar forest on a clear, well-marked path before arriving at the iconic Blue Lagoon and Belcekız beach, where the day ends with a well-earned swim in the turquoise shallows. This is the gentlest hiking day of the itinerary and serves as an ideal warm-up stage.

Accommodation

Handpicked pension, Faralya

A short minibus from Ölüdeniz drops the group at Ovacık and the official Lycian Way departure sign — the recognised start marker for the Ölüdeniz section of the trail — from where the path climbs steadily onto the pine-forested ridge above the coast. This is the most physically demanding day of the itinerary, gaining significant altitude on exposed clifftop paths with panoramic views across the Aegean toward Rhodes before a sustained descent to the remote village of Faralya, which sits at the clifftop above Butterfly Valley (Kelebek Vadisi). All large luggage is transferred directly to the Faralya pension while hikers carry only daypacks.

Day 4: Faralya — Kabak Canyon Waterfall Excursion  ·  ~9-14 km

Accommodation

Handpicked pension, Faralya

A full-day excursion from the Faralya base follows the Lycian Way south and then descends via ancient shepherd paths through maquis and fig groves to the hidden Kabak canyon waterfall — a freshwater cascade falling into a natural pool above the remote Kabak beach, accessible only on foot or by sea. The route down is steep and requires care on loose sections, but the reward of the pool and the extraordinary canyon scenery more than justifies the effort. The return to Faralya retraces the descent path, arriving back in time for dinner and an early night.

Day 5: Kabak Ring Trail to Cennet / Paradise Bay  ·  ~11 km

Süre

5–6 hrs

Distance

~11 km

Difficulty

Moderate–Challenging

Altitude

0–380 m

Season

April–June · Sep–Nov

Start

Kabak (short transfer from Faralya)

Finish

Kabak (return to Faralya)

Accommodation

Handpicked pension, Faralya

A short vehicle transfer from Faralya drops the group at Kabak to begin the circular ring trail — one of the most rewarding day-hikes on the entire western Lycian Way — which traverses coastal forest and open clifftop paths to reach Cennet Bay (Paradise Bay), a secluded swimming cove accessible only by this trail or by sea, before looping back to Kabak on a different mountain path. The ring trail offers a complete cross-section of western Lycian Way terrain: shaded valley paths, exposed coastal ridges, ancient stone tracks, and the Mediterranean scrub of wild thyme and rosemary.

Day 6: Departure — Transfer to Dalaman Airport

Following breakfast at the Faralya pension, a pre-arranged vehicle transfers the group from Faralya back through Fethiye to Dalaman Airport (DLM) — a journey of approximately 90 minutes. The road back passes through Fethiye town, offering a final view of the Lycian rock tombs carved into the cliff face above the marina, before reaching the airport.
