Trail Running in Fethiye: Routes, Tours, and the Lycian Way for Every Level
Fethiye offers an exceptional variety of trails, ranging from easy waterfront promenades to rugged mountain routes reaching nearly 2,000 metres. The terrain includes forest tracks, rocky ridges, ancient stone paths, and loose limestone sections, making proper trail shoes essential. The western start of the Lycian Way begins here, with the scenic Kayaköy–Ölüdeniz section covering 14 km and around 585 metres of elevation gain. More challenging routes, such as the Ovacık–Faralya trail, feature steep gradients, technical footing, and limited shade. For experienced hikers and runners, Babadağ provides demanding climbs up to 1,969 metres with exposed ridge sections and spectacular views. The region also hosts the Lycian Way Ultramarathon, a six-day event covering up to 240 km across diverse and challenging terrain. October and early November offer the best conditions, with comfortable temperatures, reliable trail grip, and outstanding coastal scenery. Spring is another excellent season, while summer hiking and running require very early starts due to intense heat on exposed trails.
