Day 1 — Ovacık – Faralya 1 Day Hike
HIGHLIGHTS :
Stand at the ceremonial starting arch of one of the world’s great long-distance trails and begin a steady climb that reveals progressively more breathtaking views of the Ölüdeniz Blue Lagoon below. Reach the high plateau above Kozağaç and Kirme where natural springs offer cool refreshment and sweeping panoramas stretch to St Nicholas Island and the open Aegean. Descend an ancient stone mule path to Faralya, a village of remarkable tranquillity balanced on cliffs 300 metres above the secluded Butterfly Valley, a protected gorge accessible only by boat and home to the rare Jersey Tiger moth. The combination of Lycian Way heritage, raw coastal wilderness, and a guided, hassle-free format makes this one of the most memorable day hikes available from Fethiye.

Ovacık to Faralya — Climbing the First Stage of the Lycian Way Above the Blue Lagoon
Your day begins with a comfortable pick-up from your accommodation or an agreed meeting point in the Fethiye–Ölüdeniz area. Your professional, licensed local guide drives you to the ceremonial arch at Ovacık — the official western trailhead of the Lycian Way — where the day’s adventure begins. At the end of the hike in Faralya, a transfer vehicle meets you and returns you to your accommodation or agreed drop-off point, so there is no need to retrace your steps or arrange your own transport.
This point-to-point route follows the official first stage of the Lycian Way (Likya Yolu), a 540 km long-distance trail established in 1999 running from Fethiye to Antalya along Turkey’s ancient Lycian coast. The hike begins gently on a forest road from the Ovacık arch before the terrain becomes steep and rocky underfoot as the trail climbs the western slopes of Babadağ — sturdy hiking boots or trail shoes are essential. The middle section between Kozağaç and Kirme offers some flat and undulating walking through pine forest, with natural springs available to refill water bottles. From Kirme the trail descends steeply on an ancient footpath into Faralya, ending at the village road where your transfer vehicle meets you.
